Bowman Wants to Direct X-Files 2

The sequel is still in development hell, however.

It's hard to believe it's been seven years since The X-Files: Fight the Future was released in theaters, and that the intervening years have been devoid of sequels.

Within the last year or so, pieces have slowly fallen into place for a second X-Files motion picture. A month or so ago, David Duchovny (agent Fox Mulder) told Fox News that "all systems were go" for beginning production this winter.

More details emerged this month in the latest edition of Dreamwatch magazine. As Dark Horizons reports, director Rob Bowman was asked about the new X-Files movie and his connection to it.

"[The X-Files 2 is] in development hell, but it's in the works. All parties involved want to do it. I think Chris [Carter] and Frank [Spotnitz] have written a script and David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] – as far as I've been told – are interested in doing it."

Bowman added that he'd definitely be willing to direct the picture if Carter asked him to. "If they invite me to direct it, I will, and if they don't, I wish them all the luck in the world."

In addition to shooting the first X-Files feature, Bowman was closely involved with the TV series and Chris Carter's spin-off The Lone Gunmen. Since then, he's also directed Reign of Fire and the new comic-book flick Elektra.
