MULDER'S HAPPY ENDING, 'HUMBUG' ORIGINS AND MORE SECRETS WE LEARNED FROM THE X-FILES' CRITICAL COMPANION

The new book Monsters of the Week: The Complete Critical Companion to The X-Files, delves into the long history, deep lore, and behind the scenes developments of one of the most popular cult series of all time.  Written by Zack Handlen and Todd VanDerWerff, the two meticulously dissect the entire run of The X-Files episode-by-episode, as well as the feature films and revival series, alternating between a back-and-forth dialogue and joint synopsis.  Throughout the book are breakout passages where the two share their conversations with creator Chris Cart ... EXCLUSIVE: X-FILES CREATOR CHRIS CARTER TALKS SEASON FINALE DEATHS, SPIN-OFFS AND MORE

It's been a whirlwind 10-hours of The X-Files Season 11, and with "My Struggles IV" the Mulder/Scully party looks to be over. While there are certainly some cliffhangers, the revelation about Mulder and Scully's miracle child also felt pretty satisfying. In our last The X-Files postmortem of the season (series?), we chatted with creator and episode writer/director, Chris Carter, about the four-part "My Struggles" arc, who the heck is actually dead, and what the future holds for the series. Did it feel different this year bringing the season to a close? Chr ... [Continua a leggere]

EXCLUSIVE: X-FILES WRITER KAREN NIELSEN GOES INTO THE GORE AND EMOTIONAL GLORY OF ‘NOTHING LASTS FOREVER’

Leave it to Chris Carter and company to make the penultimate The X-Filesepisode of the season arguably the most viscerally gory of the whole series, and yet the most emotionally bare we’ve ever seen Mulder and Scully be towards each other. “Nothing Lasts Forever” is the very first X-Files script written by Season 10 and Season 11 script coordinator, Karen Nielsen. One of only six invited participants in the prestigious Canadian Film Centre's Bell Media Prime Time TV Writer's Program, Nielsen actually first worked with The X-Files executive ... EXCLUSIVE: WRITER BENJAMIN VAN ALLEN EXPLAINS MR. CHUCKLETEETH AND PREVIEWS UPCOMING EPISODES OF THE X-FILES

This week's episode of The X-Files, "Familiar," felt very much in line with a horror film: witchcraft, child murders, and the scariest children's entertainers since John Wayne Gacy. Almost as scary is the realization that there are only two new episodes of The X-Files left -- possibly forever. We spoke with Benjamin Van Allen, who wrote "Familiar," but is also a staff writer on this season. He told us about the terrifying origins of Mr. Chuckleteeth and Bibble-Tiggles, and how William fits into this episode. He also gave us a preview of what we can expect from the last two epis ... EXCLUSIVE: X-FILES WRITERS KRISTEN CLOKE AND SHANNON HAMBLIN EXPLAIN 'RM9SBG93ZXJZ'

I will admit it: I have been sitting on tonight's episode of The X-Files for a week, dying to talk about it with someone. So when I got the chance to interview Kristen Cloke and Shannon Hamblin, the writers of this week's amazing "Rm9sbG93ZXJz," I got a little excited. "Rm9sbG93ZXJz," which translates to "Followers" in Base64 code, is one of the more unique episodes of The X-Files. When Mulder (David Duchovny) doesn't tip the robot staff after a sushi dinner date with Scully (Gillian Anderson), the machines rise against them. The episode, brilliantly directed by Glen ... EXCLUSIVE: THE X-FILES' MITCH PILEGGI AND WRITER GABE ROTTER SPILL THE SECRETS OF SKINNER'S PAST IN 'KITTEN'

Over the span of The X-Files' 24-years of existence, actor Mitch Pileggi has embodied the role of Agent Mulder and Agent Scully's gruff, emotionally reserved boss, FBI Assistant Director Walter Sergei Skinner. Aside from the knowledge that he was in Vietnam and almost died, that he was married once, and that his relationship with his X-Files agents can at best be described as "complicated," Skinner remains largely a mystery. Even Pileggi was admittedly mock-grousing in Season 10 that it would be nice to know more about his character. Luckily, Chris Carter's assistant and X ... [Continua a leggere]

EXCLUSIVE: THE X-FILES' WRITER/DIRECTOR JAMES WONG GETS INTO THE GHOULI OF IT ALL

SPOILER WARNING: Tonight's episode of The X-Files, "Ghouli," discussed at length below.

Fans of The X-Files know that the writing team of James Wong and Glen Morgan has produced some of the creepiest episodes of the series. "Squeeze," "Tooms," "Home" -- they all rank as series classics, which are still referenced with reverence today. The duo actually left to create their own series, Space: Above and Beyond (1996), but remained in the world of Chris Carter shows, writing episodes of The X-Files until 1997, and for the series, Millennium and The Lone Gunmen. Wong and Morgan also started the Final Destination franchise, co-writing the first and third films, with Wong directing the ... [Continua a leggere]

EXCLUSIVE: THE X-FILES' DARIN MORGAN REFLECTS ON FALSE MEMORIES AND 'THE LOST ART OF FOREHEAD SWEAT'

The X-Files universe may be one full of mystery and uncertainty, but there's at least one thing about it that is crystal clear: When writer, and now, director Darin Morgan's name is on an episode, audiences can always expect a weird and wonderful ride. Morgan's first contribution to the series was the story for Season 2 episode, "Blood," and since then he's written ace installments like Season 3 episodes, "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," and "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space,'" and arguably the best episode of Season 10, "Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster". Morgan's episodes have a ten ... [Continua a leggere]

EXCLUSIVE: THE X-FILES DIRECTOR KEVIN HOOKS AND 'DEMON JUDY' BREAK DOWN 'PLUS ONE'

SPOILER WARNING! This week's episode of The X-Files, "Plus One," discussed at length below.

Wait?! Did MSR (Mulder/Scully Romance) fans just see in "Plus One" what they've been hoping to see since the FBI agents lip-locked at the end of Season 8? Damn right they did, and all of that relationship goodness was mashed inside a classic-style X-File involving super creepy, Hangman-playing twins, Judy and Chuck. In case you didn't catch it, the tour de force performances of both "Little Judy" and cranky Chuck were both played by actress Karin Konoval. And surprise, this dual role is actually Konoval's third separate appearance on The X-Files. In 1995, she played Madame Zelma in ... [Continua a leggere]

EXCLUSIVE: X-FILES WRITER GLEN MORGAN TELLS US ABOUT THE MAKING OF 'THIS'

SPOILER WARNING! The X-Files Season 11, Episode 2, "This" discussed at length below!

Long-time The X-Files writer, Glen Morgan, wrote and directed this week's episode, "This," which brought back (kind of) Lone Gunman Langly, and explored the afterlife via tech. In an exclusive sit down with SYFY WIRE, he explains what he was trying to do with the episode, lessons learned from Season 10, and the personal inspiration for this tale. After the huge ratings for Season 10, did you assume that would lead to moreThe X-Files stories? Glen Morgan: I didn't really think about it. I thought it would be done, so I was as surprised as anybody. In "This," you we ... [Continua a leggere]

Duchovny Had X-Files Reunion

The X-Files star David Duchovny told SCI FI Wire that he had a lunch reunion in Los Angeles recently with his co-star Gillian Anderson and series creator Chris Carter to discuss the long-gestating sequel movie."That was nice," Duchovny said while promoting his latest movie, Things We Lost in the Fire. "I see Chris quite a bit. We live kind of in the same neighborhood. We live within maybe 10 or 15 miles of one another. But I hadn't seen Gillian in a while. So it was like a reunion. It really was. It was more emotional than I would have though it was [going to be]. If you spend that muc ... [Continua a leggere]

SciFi: X-Files 2 Still In Talks

The X-Files creator Chris Carter told SFX magazine that he's still trying to get a second movie based on his classic TV series off the ground. "We are in negotiations right now," Carter told the magazine. "And because it's a sequel, there are peculiar and specific kinds of negotiations that are holding us up. I think that there's an appetite for it, but I think that it's got to be good. People won't just go and see anything. Whatever happens, I'm going to do something good that people will want to go and see regardless."As for the sequel film's storyline, Carter said, "Not a mythology one, for ... [Continua a leggere]

The ABCs of ‘X’

Neither of the show’s two main stars have returned yet. David Duchovny, who plays Fox Mulder with a deadpan aplomb, is due to return first, and his Emmy nominated co-star Gillian Anderson, who plays the scientific and pragmatic Dana Scully, returns the following week; both spent the summer hiatus filming feature films (Return To Me and House Of Mirth, respectively). But you can already feel the energy as the crew gears up for a new season. For the moment filming is limited to a scene in a psychiatrist’s office, an otherwise ordinary looking set with perfectly slanted ... [Continua a leggere]

Executive producer Frank Spotnitz looks to the future of The X-Files

Two FBI agents, Mulder and Scully, were introduced to the airwaves in 1993 with little fanfare and virtually no expectations. The same can’t be said six years later. Expectations for The X-Files are as high as ever, even as outside dramas swirl around the series (a pending lawsuit against Twentieth Century Fox brought by star David Duchovny; the cancellation of series creator Chris Carter’s new show, Harsh Realm; uncertainty whether or not there will be an eighth season). While the long-term future of The X-Files and its intrepid agents (played by Duchovny and Gillia ...
