The X-Files at EW Fest: 7 things we learned

X-Files fans got a glimpse inside the writers’ room on Saturday at EW Fest — not that the groundbreaking sci-fi series ever had a writers’ room in a traditional sense. As executive producer/ writer Glen Morgan, who is returning for the show’s new season in January, recalled, the writers rarely broke stories in a group, working instead out of boxy offices or each other’s backyards. But out of the series’ regular group of writers came a number of TV’s biggest influencers, including Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad) and Frank Spotnitz (Man in ... The X-Files creator promises a return 'for the hardcore fans'

Season 10 of The X-Files (and yes, take it from superfan Kumail Nanjiani: They’re calling it season 10) made its U.S. debut at New York Comic-Con on Saturday with an episode that was at once new and familiar. “We tried to pull things from the distant past and make them relevant to today,” said series creator Chris Carter. “We’re trying to be honest to the time we live in. When they talk about the new world order, it’s something with a lot of scope.” Nanjiani, who appears in an episode of the new season, approves. “You always think, ‘How do ... [Continua a leggere]

Gillian Anderson on why she's wearing a wig to play Scully in The X-Files revival

Fans of The X-Files remember Dana Scully as an intellectually rigorous, science-minded investigator of the supernatural possibilities, skeptical (aliens? proof please!) yet open-minded about far-out possibilities (including God), and passionate about truth, justice and the man with whom she shared an intimate rapport on multiple levels. So much to discuss about what’s inside the mind and heart of this extraordinary and complex woman – and yet what fans really want to talk about  right now is what’s on top of her head. Because fans also remember Scully for her red hair, y ... [Continua a leggere]

Decoding the 'X-Files' set: What does it all mean?

Chris Carter breaks down some of the items that can be seen on the set of Mulder’s home in The X-Files 2.0. 1. Vacuum Cleaner “The idea here is that Mulder has kind of moved into his living room. It should suggest something else about Mulder that I won’t spoil, but Mulder has moved into the central room of his house, and everything that might come into play in such a messy house is in that room.” 2. Newspaper Clippings and Graphs on the Wall “There’s a theme here on this wall, a UFO/extraterrestrial theme. This is the accumulation of a man’s obse ... [Continua a leggere]

The New-Files, Declassified

EW Cover

They’re heeere. It’s been 13 years since we last saw Mulder and Scully investigating little green men and tangling with Cigarette Smoking Man on TV. EW made first contact with the revival as the cameras rolled, and we’ve got the intel and photos to prove it.

THEY ARRIVE BY limo, traveling a bumpy road winding through wild territory. They exit the car looking unmistakably themselves, and not. He’s missing his suit. She’s missing some red in her hair. They are older, of course, but time has only distinguished them, not diminished them. They’ve arrived at the home of a woman living on the fringes of society to investigate exactly the type of mystery that made them icons of an earlier era. More than a decade after The X-Files ended, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are about to be reintroduced to the world all over again… …W ... [Continua a leggere]

The X-Files returns: EW has the exclusive first look and stories from the set

They’re heeeere! David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have reuinted as Mulder and Scully for the X-Files revival series, and EW was first on the scene, getting the scoop as cameras rolled during the very first week of production. On an abandoned farm on the outskirts of Vancouver B.C., we found paranormal detectives Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) investigating the curious case of a possible alien abductee (played by Annet Mahendru of The Americans) at the behest of a most curious ally, the host of a conservative talk show (Community’s Joel McHale). Of course, ... [Continua a leggere]

The X-Files: David Duchovny says the new script made him cry

'X-Files' star talks Fox's eagerly awaited revival—and says he's up for a second season

David Duchovny says the first page of The X-Files revivial script made him cry—and it’s fantastic. “I got the first script this morning,” the actor told EW during a recent interview. “I just read it about an hour ago and I started crying reading the first page. It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself. It was just like, I’d been talking about this for a long time. We’d been planning it for a long time. It took a long time to get all the people in the same place and get the deal with Fox. So let&r ... [Continua a leggere]

David Duchovny says X-Files reboot will be a mix of monsters and mythology

Ever since Fox announced that it was bringing back The X-Files, fans have been wondering what would be in store for the show’s return. Would the six-episode season (kicking off Jan. 24) center on the show’s mythology of alien conspiracy and abduction or focus more on the stand-alone monster of the week formula we saw when the drama first hit the air back in 1993? Well, now the truth about The X-Files reboot is out there thanks to star David Duchovny, or at least what he senses is the truth (these things are always a bit murky). Duchovny stopped by Entertainment Weekly Radio (Siriu ... [Continua a leggere]

Fox confirms 'X-Files' reboot talks (and would love more 'Prison Break' too)

Fox’s new agenda is looking a lot like their old one. Confirming some prior reports, the network’s leadership says they are seriously chasing a reboot of The X-Files and are possibly interested in bringing back Prison Break too (along with yet another edition of 24 as well — but that’s another story). On The X-Files front, Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman say they have been in talks with series creator Chris Carter about reviving the supernatural procedural, which was a major hit for the network from 1993 to 2002. 'The X-Files' -- 1993-2002

EW Reunions #1

David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and creator Chris Carter reminisce about the genesis of the sci-fi series

“THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE”. So promised The X-Files, the groundbreaking sci-fi saga that debuted 20 years ago this fall. But the maxim that appears in the show’s credits- the mantra of questing FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)- was supposed to be something else. Creator Chris Carter forgets the original phrase, but he remembers that it wasn’t good. With time running out, and Carter hating the entire cretits sequence in general, the producer began brainstorming ideas for images (germinating seeds, a man’s morphing face) and wo ... 'Hannibal' casts 'X-Files' star Gillian Anderson -- EXCLUSIVE

Hugely exciting casting news: Sci-fi fan-favorite Gillian Anderson is returning to broadcast television after a decade to join writer-producer Bryan Fuller’s serial-killer thriller Hannibal. And perhaps the best part is the role she’s playing…. In a multi-episode arc on the upcoming NBC drama, Anderson is going to play Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier — murderous psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s (Mads Mikkelsen) own therapist. “Every therapist needs their own head examined and we are ecstatic that Gillian Anderson has chosen Hannibal to mark her return to Americ ... The X-Files: I Want to Believe it's a good movie

Call it a box office bomb all you want ($17 million and rising!), but I loved the new X-Files movie... both times I saw it. And while that should come as no surprise to anyone who read my recent feature on the year I spent tracking the movie's mysterious march to theaters, I sure as hell have been shocked by the dismissive, occasionally vicious beating it's taken from critics. My hometown Houston Chronicle, for example, gave it one star and called it "stupid, lackadaisical and schlocky." My mother, on the other hand, walked into an H-Town multiplex on Wednesday, and walked out calling ... [Continua a leggere]
