The X-Files 20th Anniversary Blogging: "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" (April 12, 1996)

As I’ve noted before, Darin Morgan’s stories for The X-Files (1993 – 2002) are something of a philosophical anomaly. Where Mulder and Scully typically voice facets of belief or skepticism, Morgan often populates his episodes with a lead character who is a surrogate for his own belief system: nihilism. That surrogate in “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space” is an opportunistic “non-fiction/science-fiction” writer, Jose Chung (Charles Nelson Reilly) who is seeking a quick buck by writing a history of an alien abduction experience. And at one point in ... [Continua a leggere]

Exclusive Interview: Creator Chris Carter Looks Back at The X-Files, Discusses Potential Third Movie and More

Even though I generally don't struggle with words, when it comes to my total adoration of anything "X-Files" related, I'm often tongue-twisted. When Chris Carter's series first debuted in September 1993, everything for me as a genre fan changed. I was lucky to have grown up exposed to episodes of shows like "Kolchak: The Night Stalker," "The Twilight Zone" and "Dark Shadows" so the very first time I laid eyes on Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and his 'I Want to Believe' poster, I knew I had found my "Dark Shadows." What continued to bring me back season after season was the series' incredible st ... [Continua a leggere]

SDCC: Chris Carter & "The X-Files" Return to San Diego with Season 10

Friday's "The X-Files" panel was a smaller affair than the previous day's event that saw a massive crowd line up for one of Comic-Con International's biggest rooms to see stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunited on stage. But IDW Publishing Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall kicked thing with an announcement that could only be made at this panel, in a smaller venue. "And now this couldn't happen yesterday -- because there was too much media, it was too big, there was just too much going on around it, so I know there were some questions about 'X-Files 3,'" began Ryall, winding the audience ... The X-Files 20th Anniversary Blogging: "Pusher" (February 23, 1996)

Written by Vince Gilligan and directed by Rob Bowman, “Pusher” is one of those so-called “signature episodes” of The X-Files that I discussed a little bit last week, in my review of “Syzygy.” No matter how many times you’ve seen this third season installment a re-watch immediately draws you in, and you find yourself glued to the television through the nail-biting final act. Part of the reason this episode succeeds so splendidly is because it establishes a nasty psychic assassin, Robert Patrick Modell (Robert Wisden) as a dark reflection of the Mulder ... On the feature side, he will next be seen starring opposite Hope Davis and Timothy Hutton in Louder Than Words. The X-Files 20th Anniversary Blogging: "Syzygy" (January 26, 1996)

Although it is not widely considered a signature episode of The X-Files (1993 – 2002) like “The Host,” “Irresistible,” “Home,” “Pusher,” or “Bad Blood,” Chris Carter’s “Syzygy” is nonetheless one of my favorite installments of the two-hundred-plus strong catalog. In part that position of favor arises from the episode’s deliberate and crafty re-purposing of familiar horror tropes. In a very real way, the story is a wicked inversion of Stephen King’s Carrie (1976). Only here, the victimizers and not ... [Continua a leggere]

20 anni di X-Files al Comic Con 2013

In occasione del Comic Con 2013 si è svolto un panel per festeggiare il 20° anniversario della serie cult X-Files. Presenti i due attori protagonisti, David Duchovny e Gillian Anderson, l’ideatore Chris Carter e i produttori esecutivi Vince Gilligan e Howard Gordon. [Continua a leggere]

3 Reasons Why The X Files 3 Needs To Be Made

The X Files recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary at Comic Con and fans seemed just as excited as when the show was still on the air. The last X Files incarnation, The X Files: I Want to Believe feature film, was released in 2008 to a mixed response from critics and fans. Despite the failure of the second film, fans are still pining for one more outing. In fact, demand is so high for the X Files universe that creator Chris Carter is currently overseeing the release of season 10 of The X Files in comic book form. Another X Files film is clearly should be made and here’s three re ... [Continua a leggere]

COMIC-CON: How We Pulled Off The X-Files 20th Anniversary Panel

Last year Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and his girlfriend Holly were talking with my TV Guide Magazine bosses, and the topic of The X-Files came up. Vince reminded them that The X-Files was about to hit its 20th anniversary, and Holly suggested a panel -- perhaps at Comic-Con. The truth is out there. And here's the backstory on how we wound up putting together what I believe, not so humbly, was one of the highlights of this year's Comic-Con. My editor Debra Birnbaum emailed me last fall: Did I think we could pull off a panel devoted to the all-star writers and producers of The X-Files? ... [Continua a leggere]

Fans Flock to TV Guide Magazine's X-Files 20th Anniversary Comic-Con Panel

The truth is out there, but after 20 years, it's not always so easy to recall all the details. TV Guide Magazine West Coast bureau chief Michael Schneider sparked the memories of The X-Files stars David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully), along with show creator, Chris Carter, at the July 18 Comic-Con panel celebrating the 20th anniversary of Fox's landmark sci-fi mystery series.Duchovny and Anderson, who rarely appear at such fan events, kicked off the audience hysteria by entering the darkened stage brandishing their character's familiar flashlights. "Thank you all for ... [Continua a leggere]

'A film would be great!' David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reveal another X-Files movie could be in the pipeline as they reunite at Comic Con

The unspoken attraction between Mulder and Scully formed the backbone of The X-Files. And David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson proved they still have that chemistry as they met up again to celebrate their iconic show's 20 year anniversary at Comic Con in San Diego, California on Thursday. The pair reunited to meet fans at a special panel at the show, and soon delighted the crowd when they hinted that we might not have seen the last of their much-loved characters. Questioned about the possibility of following in the footsteps of 24 with a limited return to the small screen, Anderson said simp ... [Continua a leggere]

Comic-Con fans clamor for third ‘X-Files’ film; creator Carter dodges requests

SAN DIEGO — The truth is out there: Don’t expect a third “X-Files” film. While series creator Chris Carter was suitably impressed by a boisterous and enthusiastic Comic-Con International crowd clamoring for a third big-screen venture, he remained decidedly noncommittal on the idea. “We can get to it later,” Carter said Thursday, when asked of the possibility at a panel celebrating the Fox series’ 20th anniversary. The panel also featured stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, along with writers and producers. It was not the answer the crowd was ... [Continua a leggere]
