No Aliens for X-Files 2

When we last heard an update on X-Files 2, Rob Bowman — who directed Fight the Future and hopes to helm the sequel — said the project was waiting on a script from Chris Carter, creator of the X-Files and Millennium television series. Bowman also suggested that the new film would be a stand-alone story, rather than continuing the conspiracy theme of the show's later seasons and X-Files: Fight the Future. We're still waiting on that script, but it sounds like someone's going to get going on it soon. According to Sci Fi Wire, Frank Spotnitz has taken on the job of producing a screenpla ... [Continua a leggere]

On DVD, 'The Lone Gunmen' Return to Life

Yes, they're dead -- or at least as dead as anyone in "X-Files" creator Chris Carter's universe -- but the conspiracy-hunting, computer-geek trio known as the Lone Gunmen is back on America's TV screens, for the price of a DVD box set, that is.On Tuesday, March 29, 2005, a little more than four years after it premiered on FOX, "The Lone Gunmen," the short-lived "X-Files" spin-off, comes out in a three-disc (using double-sided discs) DVD box set from Fox Home Entertainment.Along with all 13 original episodes -- plus "Jump the Shark," a season-nine "X-Files" episode that concludes the Gunmen's p ... Spotnitz Investigates More X-Files

"The X-Files" producer Frank Spotnitz has his own production company website for Big Light Productions, and has posted something in his blog about the next movie.Seems a fan ran into David Duchovny at a benefit on October 2 and asked him what’s the status of the next X-Files movie. Duchovny seemed really positive about it being completed in the next year and out in theatres in two years. Was he correct? Here's what Spotnitz says: "I’m happy to confirm – as David [Duchovny] has in several interviews – that the rumors about a second X-Files feature film are true. ... [Continua a leggere]

Directing X-Files

Kim Manners looks into his monitors as yet another take is completed on "Audrey Pauley," episode 13 of the ninth season of The X-Files. "Cut — Print it! Next!" he yells after doing that little karate move with his hands that everybody around the set imitates. The crew immediately picks up and begins to arrange the next setup, seemingly willing to do anything to 'Mind Their Manners.' The director comfortably steps aside for an interview as his crew happily prepares another shot. It's a virtual Kim Manners Love fest on Stage 5 at 20th Century-Fox. Actress Annabeth Gish (Agent Monica Reyes ... [Continua a leggere]

The Next Files

The Official Magazine: How is Season Seven progressing? Spotnitz: If there’s anything I’ve learned, [it's that] I really don’t see what it’s like until the end. You look back and say, “That’s what this year was really [like].” It’s kind of hard when you’re in the midst of it. X-Files Magazine: Will this be the final year for The X-Files? Spotnitz: Nobody knows. It’s David’s last year in his contract. It’s Chris’ last year in his contract. I’m told Gillian has one more year, although ... [Continua a leggere]

Harsh Decision

It was news that shocked everyone. After only three weeks, Chris Carter’s fledgling series Harsh Realm was cancelled.

The initial episodes of the high-concept sci-fi/action show adapted from Andrew Paquette and James Hudnall’s comic book of the same name had received critical praise for its ambition but low ratings. Fox executives concerned about how their fall line-up would fare against that of other networks abruptly cancelled the series, explains executive producer Frank Spotnitz. “It goes without saying, I think it was a terrible decision made by people who were panicked,” Spotnitz says. “I think if these people had been in charge when The X-Files launched, X-Files w ... 1999 The Year That Changed Movies: Burning Question

Q: In The X-Files’ season premiere (Nov. 14), Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) undergoes an elaborate and dangerous medical procedure that has all sorts of important repercussions for him, not to mention the future of the world. *So what exactly did they do to Mulder?* A: The truth, says X-Files executive producer Frank Spotnitz, is back there – two seasons back to be exact. That’s when Mulder was infected by the black oil (remember?). Although it seemed at the time that the alien virus had been cleared from his system, it was actually just lying dormant – unt ...
